I Love Working Out. Not!
I Love Working Out! Not……
Physical fitness is a big part of my personal and professional life. Because of this, people often ask me how much I love working out. I don’t. I actually hate it. Therefore I am venturing to write a blog classifying the three kinds of people who claim they love working out.
The Glorifiers. These are the people that have to let the world know exactly what their workout is and how strong and in shape they are. They will post every repetition, mile, and minute spent at the gym sculpting their body. My conclusion is that they don’t really LOVE working out, but they do really LOVE telling people about it.
The Confused. These are the people that love working out, but they are not aware what a workout really is. If you are reading a novel while on the treadmill or having a full conversation with the person on the neighboring equipment, what’s not to love? There are the people that also chat for about 5 minutes between sets at the gym and spend 2 hours there. Unfortunately the time spent working out amounts to about 15 minutes.
Misguided Lovers. OK, this is where I would actually classify myself. (And Ed Above) Do I love working out? Absolutely not! And I challenge anyone to claim they do if they are working to their full potential. Running, cardio training, resistance training, and classes suck!!! So what is there to love? The love comes in what we experience when it is over. The endorphins and other natural opiates flowing through our system and making us feel unstoppable. I love the fact that I am less hungry because my body is using oxygen to burn fat. I love being able to wear clothes that don’t have to hide anything. This is TRUE LOVE of working out and this is what keeps bringing me back to get through the horrendous experience of an intense cardio and weight training session.
